Lego Pirates of the Caribbean isla de la muerta

The new 2011 lego pirates of the caribbean isla de la muerta takes us back to the very first Pirates of the Caribbean movie subtitled The Curse of the Black Pearl!

This Pirates of the Caribbean set recreates the scene at the end of the very first Pirates movie where Will Turner has been captured by Captain Barbossa so that they can cut him over the Aztec Gold and use his blood to lift the ancient curse where they were doomed for eternity to neither live, nor die because they stole and spent the treasure, now Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth Swann have come to rescue Will and Jack ends up fighting with the cursed Captain Barbossa. This set allows Jack and Captain Barbossa to fight as both cursed pirates as seen in the moon light and their normal looking selves.

Lego Pirates of the caribbean Isla de la Muerta Review

So let's take a look at the new Lego Pirates of the Caribbean Isla de la Muerta set, this is the first of the new Lego Pirates of the Caribbean sets to take place in the first Pirates movie (which I still consider to be the best). The Isla de la Muerta set is based on the final fight scene where Jack and Elizabeth Swann go to rescue will turner from getting his throat slit so that his blood will break the dreaded pirate curse.

This set comes with a total of four pirate mini figures and features around 154 Lego pieces, but please be aware that one of the four mini figures is a skeleton, which in my opinion still counts. So let's start off with looking at the mini figs as usual, to start with we have captain Barbossa, he comes equipped with two accessories, the first being an Apple which you may remember from the first film, where he tries to eat the Apple to prove to Elizabeth what he really is and then of course you get his sword, the extra features I love about this character is his hat and Lego have done a fantastic job of recreating Capt Barbossa's hat. Next up we have the skeleton that I mentioned, but this is no ordinary skeleton this is the skeleton of Capt Barbossa, which shows it cursed side which I think is a really cool feature, again it comes with an Apple and his sword. Other mini figures included in this Lego set are Jack Sparrow, which again is a different Jack from the other Lego sets, this Jack Sparrow features a skeleton face, this is the only set which features a skeleton Jack Sparrow, this head sculpt it also double sided so you can either have the cursed Jack Sparrow all the normal version, Jack comes with his compass and also his sword, rounding off the mini figures is Elizabeth Swann which features Elizabeth in her dress, the Elizabeth Swann head sculpt is also double sided showing a frightened face on the reverse.

Again just like the other Lego Pirates of the Caribbean sets you get a double sided poster and also a collectors card. Moving on to the actual set you get the actual treasure chest which holds the cursed gold coins, the only slight negative I have with this is that the gold coins are very dull, I would have preferred to have seen really shiny gold. The main piece of the set features a turntable style setup where you can place the normal captain Barbossa on one side and the cursed Capt Barbossa on the other and you can turn between the two giving the impression of the moonlight hitting him and showing his true cursed form. You also get a rowing boat which has a cool lantern at the front of the boat which just adds to the atmosphere of the pirate world. The boat also comes with two oars.

So what do I really think about the Lego Isla de la Muerta set overall, well it's not my favourite of the new Lego pirate sets, they don't get me wrong there are some really cool features like the two captain Barbossa minifigures which I think is a great addition and fact of having a unique Jack Sparrow mini figure makes it worth buying alone, but the actual set doesn't really do a lot, I was disappointed not to see a will turner figure which I think would really add to this set and with a £20 price point it does seem a little expensive, but saying that we have found some really great deals that you can see on price comparison table above which makes this set worth buying.
